Airport Expansion Phase II

Updates

January 2007 – The construction resumes

After two weeks of well-deserved holidays, the construction workers working on the terminal expansion are back on the job. They are focusing on the concrete formwork and pouring at the south end of the site. In mid-February, they will start erecting the steel structure, which means that the concrete must be finished by that date.

At the north end of the site, the formwork for three elevator shafts has been installed. One of the elevators will be used to access the Maple Leaf Lounge on level 3, another elevator for the basement cargo on level 2 and finally the third will be used for other purposes.

With the good weather over the past few weeks, the general contractor was able to stay on schedule. Therefore, we still expect to have access to the level 2 waiting areas and the Maple Leaf Lounge before the end of this year. After relocation of these activities, demolition will begin on what remains of the old terminal in early 2008. Once the demolition is complete, a new platform will be paved and passenger loading bridges will be installed on the west side of the new addition. Once the bridges are installed, we will have access to the spaces on the ground floor and in the basement. All the work should be complete before the end of 2008.
